Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg set to dazzle at Miss World in India

With poise and a powerful sense of purpose, Miss World South Africa 2024, Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, made her final public appearance before leaving for India — a night marked by elegance and national pride.

Wearing a striking emerald gown accented with delicate feathers, Van Rensburg descended the staircase at The Shyre Mansion in Johannesburg. The venue’s grandeur matched the emotional weight of the evening, as supporters gathered to send off the beauty queen with love and admiration.

The Shyre, with its stately design and manicured gardens, set the tone for an event celebrating South African grace on a global stage.

“I’m excited, delighted, and really thrilled. I can’t wait for the official departure and for the festival to commence,” Van Rensburg said ahead of her flight to Hyderabad, India, where she will compete at the 72nd Miss World pageant on 31 May at the HITEX Exhibition Centre.

She explained that the team would depart on Saturday and spend a few days settling in before the event formally begins on 7 May.

More than just a beauty contest, the Miss World Festival highlights cultural exchange and social impact. Van Rensburg expressed her admiration for the platform’s emphasis on shared purpose and unity among women from all over the world.

“That’s one beautiful thing about Miss World — it’s women coming together for a common cause. None of us are better than the other; we are united in trying to create positive change. To be part of that is a privilege,” she said.

Her “Beauty with a Purpose” project focuses on orphaned and vulnerable children, reflecting her personal connection to the cause. “When I thought of my initiatives, I asked myself: what did I need as a child? That was love, support, and education. I want to ensure children in orphanages are not just educated but also feel safe, seen, and valued,” she said.

Throughout the evening, her family stood by her side, with her brother sharing heartfelt words: “This has been a lifelong dream for her and I’m proud to see her living that dream so gracefully.”

Acting Brand South Africa CEO, Sithembile Ntombela, praised Van Rensburg for representing the best of the nation. “In many of our eyes, you have already won. Your discipline, your values, your grace — these shine through everything you do. You’re not going to India alone. You’re carrying the hopes of millions with you,” said Ntombela.

Carol Bouwer, Miss World SA license holder and president of the organisation, reflected on Van Rensburg’s warmth and humility. “Zoalize, your gift is how you make everyone feel seen and important — from dignitaries to children. Your warmth is your superpower,” Bouwer said, referencing a recent trip the two shared in Botswana.

The Shyre founder, Ntokozo Madliwa, also offered her support: “It’s been a year since The Shyre opened, and having this send-off here is truly special. We’re so excited for what lies ahead.”

Speaking about representing South Africa, Van Rensburg said she hopes to showcase the country’s ubuntu spirit. “We’re a trailblazing nation — full of resilience, kindness, and unity. We may not be where we want to be yet, but we’re getting there. I want to reflect that spirit at Miss World,” she said.

She also gave a subtle teaser about her “Dance of the World” national costume. “It’s something different — not typically South African. I hope it surprises people,” she said, adding that her brother, a fashion designer, helped bring the bold vision to life.

Emphasising her commitment to sustainable fashion, Van Rensburg shared, “Fashion is one of the most polluting industries, so I’ve focused on eco-friendly outfits — and yes, that includes a few re-wears,” she laughed.

To young dreamers, she offered an inspiring message: “My dream wasn’t about the crown. It was about making a difference. Miss World became the platform. Stay true to your purpose — even if your dream shows up in an unexpected form, it will still be worth it.”
