Though relinquishing his pastoral role, Jakes will maintain influence as board chairman and spiritual advisor. Meanwhile, Sarah Jakes Roberts—who has increasingly guided the 30,000-member congregation during her father’s recovery—and her husband Touré Roberts will assume co-senior pastor duties.

The couple brings decades of combined ministry experience, including leadership at their own thriving church, One Church LA.
Longtime members expressed both nostalgia and optimism about the change.
“Bishop Jakes’ teachings transformed lives globally, but Sarah has already proven her wisdom and vision,” remarked elder Debra Wilkins. Another attendee, Marcus Greene, noted, “This isn’t an ending—it’s the start of an exciting new chapter.”

Jakes plans to focus on new ventures, including an iHeartMedia podcast series, My Next Chapter, exploring faith transitions. Meanwhile, The Potter’s House leadership vows to continue its community outreach and global ministry under its new guidance. As one of America’s most prominent Black churches, this carefully planned succession ensures its legacy endures for generations to come.
