Rachel Kolisi Shares Emotional Experience During Cape Town Wildfire

Over the weekend, a devastating wildfire raged across Table Mountain National Park, forcing residents to evacuate, destroying parts of the scenic Tokai area, and stretching firefighting crews to their limits. Among those affected was Rachel Kolisi, ex-wife of Springbok rugby captain Siya Kolisi, who shared her emotional 24-hour ordeal on Instagram.

The fire, which started late Friday and lasted into Monday, swept through key areas including Noordhoek, Clovelly, and the prestigious Steenberg Estate. Over 100 firefighters were deployed to tackle the three major blazes, while authorities evacuated vulnerable communities, including a Noordhoek retirement village.

Rachel Kolisi took to social media to express her deep gratitude for the heroes who stepped in to help. In a heartfelt post, she wrote:

“The season that keeps giving 😭 We are all safe (thank God), our home is safe. So grateful for our firefighters, community and SPECIALLY @carliannsmithy and Dale – honestly no way I would have managed the last 24 hours without you 😭 Exhausted, and hope I’m not speaking too soon but I think the worst is over 🙏🏼.”

Her emotional message has resonated with fans across South Africa, shining a light on the emotional toll these wildfires are having — not just on the environment, but on families and communities caught in the chaos.

Local authorities continue to monitor for flare-ups and are urging the public to steer clear of affected areas. Emergency services have thanked the community for their cooperation and continue to work tirelessly to bring the fires under control.

Kolisi’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and the tireless work of first responders — and how even public figures are not immune to the panic and vulnerability that natural disasters bring.
