As Soweto braces itself for another chapter in South African football’s most storied rivalry, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says his side is quietly confident ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Betway Premiership Soweto Derby clash against Orlando Pirates.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Nabi acknowledged the enormity of the occasion, particularly with another clash between the fierce rivals looming just a week later in the Nedbank Cup final.
Reflecting on the first Derby of the 2024/25 season, which ended in heartbreak for Amakhosi fans after a last-minute Pirates winner, Nabi said the team has taken valuable lessons from that experience.
“The first Derby we played was a good, entertaining game which was decided by a small detail in the last minute. We believe we deserved better in that game,” he said.
“We are expecting a very tough Derby again on Saturday, although we know more about how to approach it than we did in the first one. There are possibilities open for both teams to win.”
Kick-off is set for 15:00 on Saturday, 3 May at the FNB Stadium.
