The search for the missing three-year-old boy Mojalefa Savhuli came to a tragic end on Thursday when his body was found floating in a dam adjacent to Harmony Gold Mine in Roodepoort.
Local reports confirm that a group of boys spotted young Mojalefa’s remains en route to a nearby soccer field. Emergency responders quickly dispatched a professional diver who successfully recovered the child’s body from the water.
The Savhuli family has officially identified the recovered remains as their missing three-year-old, bringing a painful conclusion to a four-day search that gripped the Tshepisong community.

Mojalefa was last seen alive on Freedom Day, April 27, 2025, when he disappeared from his Tshepisong neighbourhood in Roodepoort. His distraught mother, Murunwa Savhuli, immediately launched a social media campaign to aid in the search.

In her emotional public appeal, Savhuli described her son as “a three-year-old who primarily communicates in child-speak” and shared details of his last known outfit: green shorts, yellow jersey, and black shoes. The family had filed an official missing person’s report at Roodepoort Police Station while community members organised search parties.
The search came to a heartbreaking stop after his body was found floating in a dam. The family ends days of uncertainty on a heartbreaking note.
The missing boy was living with autism making the search more complex
Sources close to the family reveal that Mojalefa was living with autism, adding complexity to the search efforts. Authorities have not yet released information about the circumstances leading to the child’s presence in the dam or the exact cause of death.
