Behaviours that make good workers look unprofessional
Zuko Komisa
On a recent episode of Kaya 959’s “Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana,” listeners were treated to a candid and insightful discussion on a topic many grapple with in the workplace: seemingly small behaviors that can inadvertently paint even the most diligent and skilled employees in an unprofessional light.
The discussion started with Andy highlighting that professionalism extends far beyond completing tasks and meeting deadlines. That there are just those little things that raise eyebrows, and make you question people’s behavior.
Interestingly, the discussion also touched upon digital etiquette. In today’s increasingly digital world, behaviours like excessive social media use during work hours, unprofessional profile pictures on work-related platforms, and poorly written or rushed online communications were highlighted as potential pitfalls.
Andy asked: ‘It’s the small things, the small things that change your opinion about people, especially when it comes to being a good employee. There’s also that one little thing that makes them look unprofessional. What have you observed? What have you noticed about your collegues that makes them look unproffessional”
