Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe announced the price adjustments, citing current local and international economic factors.
According to the Minister’s announcement, both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 (ULP and LRP), will see a price reduction of 22 cents per litre. In Gauteng, where a litre of 95 unleaded petrol currently costs R21.62, this will drop to R21.40 from Wednesday.
Coastal regions will also experience relief, with the price of 95 petrol decreasing from R20.79 to R20.57 per litre.
Diesel users will benefit even further, with the price of diesel (0.05% sulphur) decreasing by 42 cents per litre and diesel (0.005% sulphur) coming down by 41 cents per litre.
This news will undoubtedly provide some financial respite for South African motorists and consumers who have been grappling with high fuel costs in recent months.
