SANBS is a non-profit organisation which provides an essential service within South Africa and is rated amongst the best in the world in the provision of blood and blood products, as well as in relation to the research and training provided.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) Bursary Programme offers 10 bursaries for South African students pursuing a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree with Immunohematology (Blood Transfusion) as an elective. The bursary covers tuition fees (up to R40 000 annually), study materials (up to R10 000), partial accommodation, a stipend (R3 500/month for 10 months), and provides hands-on experience in SANBS laboratories.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Under 30 years old
  • Enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor of Health Sciences, with Immunohematology as an elective
  • At least 65% average in the previous year of study
  • No other financial support through another bursary
  • Preference for students in financial need (household income under R600 000 annually)
